This Programme works with different players in the market chain, to improve productivity and market linkages between producer groups, input dealers and agro-processors. The programme aims to catalyse and incentivise market for inputs, rice and sesame products and agriculture extension services.

The goal of the Coastal Rural Support Programme is to improve the livelihoods of 60,000 households living in rural villages in two of the most impoverished regions of Tanzania, Lindi and Mtwara. The project purpose is to increase incomes and food security for smallholder farmers engaged in rice and sesame production in the two regions of Lindi and Mtwara. We support 5 key output areas; (i) more effective and better organised farmer producer groups; (ii) increased productivity and profitability of rice and sesame farming;  (iii) improved market linkages between producer groups, input dealers and agro-processors; (iv) the development of a replicable model for the delivery of agricultural extension services and producer group capacity building; and (v) action research on the linkages at a household level between farm productivity, a changing climate, incomes and nutrition.
