Sector: Private Sector and Enterprise Development

Dates: Starts 01/05/2009 | Completion 01/06/2012

The programme has identified strategic clusters which have significant potential for economic growth in Tanzania. Using the comprehensive cluster approach, it mobilizes stakeholders in those clusters and encourages “buy-in”; rationalises and responds to their demands; addresses gaps in current supply of services in the cluster; and maintains focus on catalytic actions throughout the supply chain; and it has the flexibility and capability to address constraints all along the chain from production through processing to the end consumer.

The programme focus is to sustainably increase the competitiveness of strategic clusters of Tanzanian private enterprises through:

  • Enhanced competitiveness of six to eight clusters and up to 250 SMEs (possible clusters include agri-business, tourism, fisheries, small-scale mining and construction/civil engineering).
  • Enhanced capacity of relevant private and public institutions to sustain improvements in Tanzania’s competitiveness.
  • Targeted policy advice to private and public institutions to improve public policy on enterprise competitiveness.
